Hidden nature in Campania: four places worth the journey
River gorges, a fern-filled valley, a protected bay and a compact waterfall, with the limits made clear.
Choose by effort, not by photograph
These four landscapes look equally inviting in photographs but demand very different days. Capelli di Venere is a short managed stop; Ieranto includes a hot uphill return; the Calore depends on river conditions; Valle delle Ferriere depends on route choice.
Start with time, weather and transport. The most beautiful option is the one you can complete safely without rushing the return.
Water and rock in inland Cilento
The Calore Gorges need a weather check even in summer. Heavy rain upstream can change the river after the sky above Felitto has cleared.
Capelli di Venere is easier and shorter. Its challenge is slippery ground and seasonal access, not distance.

Valle delle Ferriere
The valley behind Amalfi rewards walkers with water, shade and industrial remains. The mistake is treating Pontone and Amalfi as identical starts.
Decide whether the walk is one-way and arrange the return before leaving. Protected reserve sectors may have their own access rules.
Baia di Ieranto
Ieranto offers the strongest sense of arrival because there is no road to the bay. That also removes every easy escape from heat, fatigue or a lack of water.
Begin early, carry supplies and keep energy for the climb back to Nerano. September and October are often more forgiving than peak summer.
