Best time

All year during official opening hours.

The place

The terminal cistern of the Augustan aqueduct resembles an underground cathedral supported by rows of pillars. The visit is compact but opening and booking must be checked in advance.

An engineered underground space

The scale becomes clear only after entering: parallel rows of pillars divide a single reservoir built to hold water for the Roman fleet at Misenum.

Light, humidity and acoustics make the interior memorable, but also mean the floor can be slippery and access conditions matter.

Build a wider Bacoli day

One hour is normally enough inside. The short visit pairs naturally with the harbour of Miseno, the Fusaro lake or another Phlegraean site.

Do not assume walk-in admission. Use the official booking channel and confirm the entrance address before travelling.

Before you go

  • Check the official channel for current access rules and closures.
  • Save the route before leaving: mobile coverage can be unreliable.
  • Allow extra time for parking, the last admission and the return journey.

Getting there

The entrance is in Bacoli near Miseno; use the address supplied by the official operator.

Parking

Limited street and urban parking is available nearby.

Public transport

Take the Cumana railway to Torregaveta or Fusaro, then a local bus towards Bacoli and Miseno.
