The place
Cusano Mutri climbs through arches, stairs and small squares beneath the Matese. It is a strong base for a village walk, while surrounding gorges require separate planning.
Village first, gorge second
The historic centre can be explored safely in two hours. Natural excursions outside it have different access, difficulty and weather limits.
Autumn festivals transform traffic and crowding. On event dates, use official park-and-ride information rather than driving uphill.
Plan the visit
Follow signs to public parking below the historic centre. Parking is outside the oldest streets and heavily regulated during festivals.
Streets are open; individual buildings follow their own hours. Do not combine unverified gorge paths with the urban walk.
Before you go
- • Check the official website for opening times, closures and booking rules.
- • Save the return route and allow extra time for local transport.
- • Conditions can change after bad weather or during public events.
